  • What is Mentoring?

    S3 are passionate about helping people to flourish in their business and/or personal lives. That's why S3 is bringing you access to high profile Mentors to help individuals on their personal and business journeys - Keith Fagg, Bill Winter, Sarah Valentine, Philippa Bakes, Mark Edmonds and Brendan McKeegan. All of whom have a strong affinity with the local community of Geelong and surrounds and are offering their expertise to businesses and individuals in order to make a difference and help others flourish.

    Mentoring is a powerful personal development and empowerment tool.  It is a partnership between two people (mentor and mentee) normally working in a similar field or sharing similar experiences. It is a helpful relationship based upon mutual trust and respect and is designed to help people to thrive and be the best they can be.

    A Mentor is typically an individual who has a wealth of experience and wisdom gained through hard earned lessons in business and life over a number of years.  Being a successful Mentor is a personal capability that is enhanced by the ability to ask the right questions, listen carefully, command trust and challenge the direction and vision for an individual into the future.

    Benefits of Mentoring are many.  However, for business owners and leaders the key benefits are:

  • Keith Fagg

    Keith Fagg, a former Geelong Major, is a local public figure that has a transparent love for Geelong and the surrounding districts. His people skills and genuine nature allow him to be the respected local man he is in 2015. Majoritively through his Director position at Fagg's Mitre 10, Keith is an active invester in the Geelong Community and is always seeking an opportunity to inspire others to share his same passion. Keith's experience at directing the award winning Hardware Store, has developed his goals to help the people he comes across. This servent heart of his influences his actions and by proxy, provides him with an earnest desire to mentor people and see a change within society.  

     


  • Bill Winter

    Bill has developed a reputation as a trusted family business advisor and business development specialist across a number of industry segments. He sits on the advisory boards of family businesses and is a highly regarded business mentor.

     Bill understands that feeling of isolation many business owners experience. He has a business background including years in leadership in his own family business and with national companies. These roles included ownership and CEO in food and beverage manufacturing, sales and marketing director for a national pet food business, chief operating officer for a subsidiary of a Cadbury Schweppes manufacturing unit , NRMA/RACV  Insurance as a contract CEO  in the  motor repair industry. He has lectured in business planning at tertiary level and chairs monthly forums of local company owners in Geelong and the Wimmera.

    Bill has been on the mentors panel of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is a current mentor for young business members of the Irish Australian Chamber of Commerce.

     


  • Brendan McKeegan

    Brendan is an entrepreneur at the forefront of commercialising emerging technologies. Brendan has worked and built businesses in the USA, Canada, Japan, Korea, China, Hong Kong, UK, Germany, France, Brazil and New Zealand.

    With a degree in Information Technology and broad commercial experience, Brendan leverages his practical knowledge of business to quickly grasp emerging opportunities and successfully navigate a route to market.

    Brendan was a founding member of the executive team one of Australia’s most successful Internet companies, Hitwise, with responsibility for establishing the company’s global footprint through negotiating deals with major ISPs in Australia, Europe, Asia and the US. Hitwise was purchased by Experian in April 2007 for US$240M.

    Brendan offers Business Mentoring to assist others to grow and flourish in their chosen fields and possesses strong business acumen, strategic business planning skills and is an astute professional.

     


  • Mark Edmonds

    Mark has over 30 years of experience in the retail industry in turning retail businesses around, developing new retail formats, implementing change and developing and motivating teams. He has strong experience in merchandise, property development, retail operations (multi-sire), marketing, buying, product sourcing and business acquisitions.

    Mark has worked with family businesses; private equity owned businesses and with public listed companied as well as franchise/ member based companies. He loves the challenges of dealing in fashion apparel, beauty, home wares, hard goods, hardware, timber and FMCG.Mark has strong experience in building and developing people and managing teams in different situations.

    Above all he is passionate about delivering good customer service.

    Mark is a Director of the Geelong Chamber of Commerce and the Chairman of the Geelong Regional Branch of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

     


  • Sarah Valentine

    Sarah Valentine assists business owners to reconnect with ‘why’ they are in business and works with them to create positive change and increase their results in business and life.

    Bringing over 20 years experience in behavioural profiling, coaching, training, marketing and management, Sarah has worked in industries including hospitality, retail and financial services both in Australia and London crossing the corporate, government and not for profit sectors.Having worked with 100’s of people, Sarah knows that success is being clear on who you are, your mission in life and becoming your own leader.

    In addition, Sarah saw a gap for women in business in her local area so created the Bellarine Business Women in 2011. Networking, events, business development, ongoing support and promotional activities are combined in a membership program for women who own a business on the Bellarine. 

    Her work in this field led her to winning Australian Centre for Leadership for Women’s 2013 Leadership Silver Award: ‘Sustaining Women’s Empowerment in Communities and Organisations’. It also led her to a Telstra Business Woman of the Year nomination in 2012.

    Passionate about the Geelong Region, Sarah is also a board member on the Bellarine Tourism Board and a committee member for the Ocean Grove Business Association. Sarah is an Accredited Trainer and Consultant of Extended DISC Behavioural Profiling, a Master Practitioner of NLP, has studied Business Management and Psychology at Monash University and has an Associate Diploma in Business (Public Relations).

     


  • Philippa Bakes

    Philippa’s reputation is based on helping businesses for over 25 years in the UK, Hong Kong and Australia. Her views and advice are underpinned by the financial rigour that comes from a background in accountancy. This is overlaid with an ability to listen and to see the broader picture for individuals within the business or the board. 

    Through Philippa’s career she has seen many businesses and how they have dealt with change. Either changes in the market, reducing demand or margins, or perhaps an approach from a buyer. Or simply confusion as to which way to head next. Philippa’s Clients have respect for her clarity of thought and plain talking in helping them work through decisions.

    Philippa’s aim is to inspire Geelong businesses to become bigger and better, and to optimise that value on exit.
